Flávio is another friend of Stêffani that we were able to visit. Unlike Eduardo, Flávio started a type of distribution business. When we visited him on Wednesday, it had been only recently that he had moved into the large business building intended for the expansion of his work. During the interview there were several things that he said that caught my attention. Flávio said for instance, that it was easy for a person or firm to enter his line of work and easy to leave. However, for him the difficulty was more that people in his area (his clients) cared more about price than they did about quality. To put it better, people first look at price and then analyze quality. And so, no matter how good the quality of the product is, if the price is too expensive no one will pay any attention. He also expressed some frustrations about the poor quality of infrastructure of the city. Because his business and services are mainly accessed by clients online, energy shortages and weak internet signals often can lead loss in revenue. His concern is shared by many Brazilians, and even by gringos like me since our internet at our apartment sometimes goes out several times during the week due to energy shortages or storm problems. After the interview he showed us around his work place and where all the products were kept. Overall I was pretty impressed with the success he's had at a young age. I also came away with a better understanding of the complexity and the difficulty involved to run a start-up business.
