Sertaneja Dance Class March 9th

Trying to improve our dance schools Anders, his friend Flavio, and I went back to that same dance studio to take a class on Sertaneja dance.  Although forro is one the more popular dances in Brazil, sertaneja dancing has recently become very popular in the south of Brazil.  I was very grateful that the class was a beginner class because even with some of the beginning steps I was already tripping over my feet.  For me to make the transition from dances like waltz, swing, foxtrot to dances like forro and sertaneja were somewhat difficult.  I guess I was just too used to the other styles of dancing.  For example, I was corrected over and over again to move my arms less rigidly with a more looser feel to it.  In Waltz the arms are lot more rigid and more like a stiff board instead of moving them around like what felt like octopus arms.  The teacher also instructed us some basic turns and moves.  I guess the thing I like about the forro and sertaneja dances is that you can pretty much be creative and do whatever you like with them.  There are no set moves or pre-determined ways to lead the girl.  The guy pushes or pulls and the girl follows.  Simple as that.  As long as you don't step on the girl's foot (like I did) you're good!
