Luis Laffey the Voice Actor March 10th
During our stay in Brazil I feel fortunate I was able to create some great friendships. One of the these great friends was the family of Aline. Like us Aline had and was doing several study abroad experiences with one big difference. She was from Brazil studying in the states and was back for a couple of days before she headed back to BYU to finish up her studies. From the very first time we met her family they welcomed us into their homes as if it were our own. On this particular Sunday they invited us over for Sunday. I was really intrigued to find out that the father, José is one of the best voice actors in Brazil. Some of the movies that he has voiced over include the Hobbit, Prison Break, Lost, Wreck it Ralph, and even Dragon Ball Z. He even appeared on one of the I am Mormon videos that the church produced. In the media he is known as Luiz Laffey. In fact as I was talking to him I learned that he is pretty much in charge of the New Testament videos that are being translated into Portuguese. Cool huh? As I took the chance to interview him he said that one of the biggest difficulties to do a job like his is always the beginning. Since voice acting is a competitive field it's hard to get started and get your name out into the media. He also explained to me the difficulty of translating English into Portuguese in such a way that as the movie played out it wouldn't seem too out of place. After a good talk we dived into the delicious lunch that Aline's mom had prepared for us. I thought I was in heaven for a couple of seconds :)
