Surfing on the Santos Beach March 15th

After our three days of teaching we had the opportunity to do a little bit more of exploring the beach of Santos.  We had a little bit of bat luck because the last three days was a lot of rain and clouds.  However, the sun showed its face Friday afternoon allowing us to more fully enjoy the beach.  Although the hotel kind of kicked us out early Friday morning (we only paid to stay till Thursday night), we lugged our suitcases around till we found a place to put them to go find a place to surf.  Since neither of us actually knew how to surf we were looking for a surf school that was giving out free surf lessons.  Fortunately, we found such a place that offered a free class starting 3 in the afternoon. While we were waiting we found a large rock in the middle of the ocean with a statue on top of it.  Although I don't know what the statue is named I learned from some locals that it was a statue offering up a food offering to the Gods.  And since it was such a cool rock I just couldn't resist climbing it and jumping off.  It was quite a blast.  Eventually we made our way over to the surf class.  My first few time getting up on the surf board wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.  Did I fall? You bet!  However, it really felt like I was snowboarding or skating to be honest.  There's really not much that beats surfing on a Brazilian beach at sunset, with the golden rays of sunshine reflecting across the water.  It made me think to myself that I could get used to this!  After the sun had gone done we opted to catch a bus and head home.  Too much fun for one day!  Although we had thoroughly enjoyed our trip, we were also were able to  made some valuable contacts.  Since Santos is a port city it is full of opportunities for employment and future internships, maybe in the future these contacts will provide invaluable.  And to be honest I wouldn't really mind working close to the beach :)
